Objective

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game, (ADF&G ), had been in the process of updating its many hardware systems. Over time the storage required for their infrastructure became too much to handle for backup systems. Today, their statewide network servers have over 50,000 gigabytes of data, not counting the databases. Their outdated backup systems were composed of less-than-reliable tape drives that failed to provide backup several times; Data was lost. Applied Microsystems put its resources to work and presented the ADF&G with a reliable, smart, and redundant data backup and recovery plan: the D.I.P. NET (Data Insurance and Protection Network).

Process

• AMI network engineers and ADF&G IT analyze and map existing infrastructure
• The group determines storage needs for the present and future, chooses suitable hardware & software.
• AMI network engineers create several diagrams of future D.I.P. NET
• AMI and ADF&G meet to discuss options and cost/benefit analysis
• AMI installs approved D.I.P. NET
• ADF&G now leverages sophisticated data deduplication technology that holds massive amounts of data

Design & Conquer

For over a year now, the ADF&G has been backing up and replicating data from area offices to regional offices to the main Data Domain Restorer appliances. Data is now handled the way it should be. AMI's technical expertise in networking, data replication, and business continuance has allowed the State to manage its resources effectively.
